Fall presents retailers with the chance to address seasonal demand while maintaining the quality and value customers expect, and private-label products can help them differentiate, according to UNFI. The company explains that private brands give retailers access to an expanding range of items, including seasonal specialties and daily necessities, allowing them to customize their inventory and enhance perceived value.

Seasonal Launches and Everyday Staples

Many consumers begin their fall shopping by seeking items that mark the arrival of the season. UNFI notes that pumpkin-flavored snacks, specialty drinks, baking supplies and other temporary products can motivate shoppers to try new items and tastes, enabling retailers to showcase seasonal selections and provide additional incentives for customers to browse various departments throughout the season.

“Today’s shoppers are looking for more than just products,” said Pam Ofri, chief brands officer of private brands at UNFI. “Seasonal offerings turn an everyday shopping trip into a treasure hunt, giving consumers something new to discover while helping retailers differentiate their assortment and inspire repeat visits.”

UNFI’s private-label seasonal products, including Essential Everyday Maple Dairy Whipped Topping, Honeycrisp Apple Cider and Pumpkin Spice ground coffee, are intended to help retailers connect with traditional autumn flavors while supporting wider private-brand initiatives.

In addition to seasonal releases, the basic items consumers purchase also shift as temperatures drop and daily habits evolve. Baking supplies such as cinnamon, nutmeg, baking mixes and frozen pie crusts gain importance as home baking increases. Soups and broths align with cooler-weather meals, while coffee, tea, oatmeal and other comfort-focused basics become part of back-to-school and autumn routines.

Value still plays a key role, but cost is only one factor, according to UNFI. Customers also seek items that feel timely, offer something unique and meet quality standards. Seasonal private-label goods can help retailers introduce novelty and promote exploration, while everyday essentials provide reliable value in the categories shoppers buy most frequently. UNFI states that this mix allows retailers more flexibility to stand out without depending on a single item or deal. A seasonal coffee, cider, dessert topping or baking ingredient can make routine purchases feel more connected to the season, while standard staples encourage ongoing customer loyalty.
