Meijer celebrated the opening of its 130th store in Michigan on September 30, a 159,000-square-foot supercenter located in Plymouth Township. This expansion builds on the retailer’s existing network of more than 500 stores across the Midwest region. The new location includes a full-service pharmacy, garden center, and dedicated sections for fresh produce, deli items, and pet supplies. It also features Meijer’s private-label brands, such as Frederik’s by Meijer and True Goodness, which offers products free from more than 100 ingredients, to meet the growing demand for cleaner-label products. Shopper benefits include access to the mPerks rewards program, pickup services, and Home Delivery, all designed to enhance convenience for busy families.

The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 6 a.m. on the first day of operations. As part of its community commitment, Meijer announced a $30,000 donation during the opening week, distributed among three local organizations: First Step, which assists violence survivors, the Miracle League of Plymouth, which provides baseball programs for individuals with special needs, and the Plymouth-Canton Educational Foundation. These contributions reflect the company’s ongoing support for local initiatives.

Hank Meijer, executive chairman, emphasized the company’s legacy, stating, “As a Michigan-based, family company that’s been serving customers for more than 90 years, we are honored to be able to continue bringing value and convenience to Southeast Michigan. We understand that value is more important now than ever before, and we will continue working to ensure Meijer customers are getting the best prices on quality items in one easy stop.”

The store incorporates accessibility features, including adjustable changing tables and free access to Aira, a navigation app designed for blind and low-vision shoppers. Additionally, Meijer’s Simply Give program will continue supporting the Trinity Church Food Pantry through its holiday campaign, which has raised over $100 million for food pantries since 2008. The store’s first Simply Give partner, Trinity Church Food Pantry, will receive donations from the retailer’s holiday campaign running through Dec. 26, reinforcing Meijer’s commitment to local food security.

Meijer donates at least 6 percent of its net profit to Midwest communities annually. This dual expansion demonstrates the retailer’s continued growth while prioritizing regional impact. With over 70,000 team members across its Midwest operations, Meijer continues to expand its footprint while reinforcing its role as a community anchor through philanthropy and customer-focused services.
